Benefits to the Offender
Traditional alcohol and drug education classes have been used by courts for more than 20 years. The instructor passes out the course materials and begins with a lecture or film to engage the student for what could be as long as 8 to 12 hours. Until recently, there has been little focus on whether these types of interventions were evidence-based or effective in impacting behavior.
Research shows that the briefest interventions sometimes produce the greatest effect. For example, in one study to reduce alcohol consumption among college students who are heavy drinkers, researchers found that a single hour of advice was about as effective as a 6-week class and discussion group.
It’s important to reach teens and young adults with programs that are fast-paced, culturally relevant, and impact behavior. 3rd Millennium online courses are designed for people on the go. These programs are effective, engaging, and convenient.
